Center for Molecular Medicine Earns CAP Accreditation
Grand Rapids, Mich. May 14, 2007 – The Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) today announced that it was awarded an accreditation from the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent on-site inspection by the CAP.
The CAP is a medical society serving nearly 16,000 physician members and the clinical laboratory community throughout the world. It is the world’s largest association composed exclusively of pathologists and widely considered the leader in laboratory quality assurance and advocacy, for high-quality and cost-effective medical care.
“CAP certification represents an important milestone in the development of the CMM. CAP’s recognition that the CMM provides the most stringent quality of care for CMM’s patients is predicated on our complete dedication to best clinical laboratory practices. CMM will strive to provide the best patient care and service to our clinical trials customers every day,” said CMM Executive Director Daniel H. Farkas, Ph.D. The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program. The CMM was recognized and congratulated by CAP for the “excellence of the services being provided.” During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control procedures. CAP inspectors also examine staff qualifications, the laboratory’s equipment, facilities safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory.
